Cycle to the moon from Whittlingham on Sunday

Cycling is becoming more and more popular as we all discover how socially and family inclusive cycling can be, how easily cycling can unlock the benefits of an active lifestyle and how great it to get out into the wonderful landscape on our doorstep.

Despite all the dramatic headlines, it is still around three times safer to ride a bike than use the stairs in the UK accordingly to Government statistics and the long term effects of being physically active by regularly cycling have enormously positive impacts on our health and well being.

Since their first store opened in 1988, local independent bike shop and event’s organiser Pedal Revolution, have been supporting cycling in the local community and inspiring riders of all ages and abilities. The biggest locally organised cycling event in our region is Pedal Revolution’s Tour de Broads which is the blue riband event in their annual programme which is run on a not for profit basis to support local cycling and good causes.

Last year, across their events programme, registered riders rode routes of between 3.5 miles and 100 miles making a whooping total of 226,658 miles pedalled on Norfolk roads. This year Pedal Revolution are out to inspire more families and new riders into the Tour de Broads to beat 250,000 miles – the equivalent of riding from Norfolk to the Moon! Every Tour de Broads rider makes a difference and becomes part of the team riding from Norfolk to the moon.

“Our event attracts riders of all ages and abilities and it’s a fabulous celebration of cycling in the Broads landscape on our doorstep.”

Says Pedal Revolution’s Neil Turner.

“The event is not just for regular riders in lycra, only about 20% of our riders belong to a club or the national governing body. The Tour de Broads is about attracting new riders and occasional riders to challenge themselves on our routes that range from 25-100 miles and to inspire families to have a day out on the mainly off-road Family ride route. Many riders and charities use our event as a platform to raise ”
